White and Dark Meats – As a general rule, white meats like regular chicken or turkey, etc. go well with white wines like  Sauvignon Blanc  or  Chardonnay  , while dark meats like duck and other poultry Pairs better with red wines like  Pinot Noir  or  Zinfandel  .

What kind of wine to pair with chicken seems to be a question that is not simple? It seems there are so many different types of wine because there are so many ways to prepare chicken.

There are tricks to finding the best wines to pair with a perfect poultry and seasoning, or sauce. In addition to these tips, we’ll discuss techniques so you can use and create the right wine to go with any dish you want to prepare.

  •  Wine pairing with chicken & other poultry.
  • Suggestions for pairing wine with a few dishes.

The sauce will have a big and important influence on the taste of the meat. Here are some great wines to try with more delicate and distinctive poultry:

  • White wine
  • Oaked Chardonnay

Rich dishes with creamy sauces go well with  oaked Chardonnay . The wines are from California, (Mendoza) Argentina, Chile, Spain, South France, South Australia and Italy.

  • White Côtes du Rhône

White wine blends containing  Marsanne  and  Roussanne  similar to  oaked Chardonnay  can be paired with a variety of dishes such as BBQ and creamy sauces.

  • Viognier

A wine with an herbal aroma such as sage  (used to enhance the flavor of dishes)  or lavender. These wines are sourced from Paso Robles (CA), Washington State, South Africa and Australia.

  • Sauvignon Blanc

Warm climates are perfect for a BBQ party if you pair wine with white meats and green herbs. Sauvignon Blanc wines   come from California, Australia, Italy, Washington State and Chile.

  • Ugni Blanc / Colombard / Grenache Blanc

These wines are produced in the South of France often with flavors of lemon, white flowers and purity that cut the fat in the dishes. Think chicken salad (also known as chicken salad) or avocado sandwich with turkey..

  • Chenin Blanc

Great when paired with delicately prepared white meat dishes like paté. Grape varieties are grown from the main regions: South Africa (over 50% of vineyards worldwide) France, USA, Argentina 87,000 acres/32,500 ha (2010)

  • Riseling

Somewhat surprisingly, this sweet wine goes well with dark meats like duck and goose.

  • Rose wine

Suitable for dishes with rich sauces. Rose wines are inherently sweet, sometimes a better and more perfect choice than white or red wines.

  • Red wine

Depending on your taste, choose red wines with lighter tannin structure. Meat preparations vary in color, and the tannins present in your wine will be even richer.

  • Brachetto

An aromatic red wine from Northern Italy. Lighter than  Pinot Noir  and usually slightly cooled when served. Pairs well with cold dishes, such as a turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce or chicken salad.

  • Schiava

A Southern Italian red wine that grows in the Alto Adige region. With red fruit flavors like strawberry sauce and cotton candy. Because of its fruity nature, when it comes to transitions, it goes well with teriyaki sauces and soy sauces.

  • Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir  has long been considered a classic combination with duck. We think you should also try  “Old World” Pinot Noir  like Burgundy with quail.

  • Nebbiolo from Langhe

The Nebbiolo has many different sides and one of them is much lighter than the more famous (and more expensive) versions. Consider Nebbiolo as it’s like a new “baby” entering a phase where the mild flavors of the Barolo region go well with mushroom dishes.

  • Zinfandel

Zinfandel wine   has long been considered the best Thanksgiving dinner served with turkey and cranberry sauce!

  • Grenache

Grenache wines are low in tannins, Grown from Grenache grape varieties such as  Cotes du Rhone  or  Priorat  have a rich, varied and wonderful taste.

  • St Laurent

A wine related to  Pinot Noir , a great wine to use as a red wine sauce for ducks.
